I looked at my own life when I was in my early forties and felt that I wanted a different path. I pursued my interest in personal development and therapeutic training and undertook a post graduate diploma in counselling at the Gestalt Centre in London. It was a challenging experience but gave me the skills I needed to be clearer about myself and freedom to enjoy my life more.
My counselling work developed with a varied client group, including a women's community health resource and a drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre. I have a creative approach and work in a supportive and authentic way. I enjoyed using the expressive medium of the arts in my own therapeutic process when I spent a year at the Institue for Arts and Therapy in Education.
My other interest has been in working with children, firstly as a primary teacher, where I undertook further study to try and help me understand the behaviour of children who find school and learning difficult, and then becoming an Educational Psychotherapist.
I am experienced in working with children who find learning and relationships difficult. I have worked in schools with children who have emotional, social and behavioural difficulties and am knowledgeable about children with special educational needs. I have worked as a support teacher and an inclusion manager. I also have experience of working in a Child and Adolescent Mental Health clinic with children who have had separation and loss issues and have worked as part of the multi-disciplinary team with parents.
I have UKCP accreditation and adhere to their ethics.
